Tequila could be good for your bones!!

According to the scientists of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) situated in Mexico the tequila plant contains a few substances that enhances calcium absorption.

As surprising as it may sound but tequila truly comes from a plant which is known as the agave tequilana plant. Its blue variety is used for making tequila. The tequila manufactured from this plant contains elements that facilitate magnesium and calcium absorption which help in maintaining healthy bones even for individuals who are suffering from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a medical condition that damages bones.

To procure substantial proof regarding the effectiveness of tequila, scientists at the research center infected female mice with osteoporosis before introducing agave fructans. Agave fructan is a polymer of fructose molecules. After the passage of eight weeks, samples were taken to measure the assimilation of minerals in the mice. Tests for detecting osteocalcin which is a protein present during bone growth were also conducted.

The result of this experiment revealed that mice having the plant polymers in their system produced 50% more osteocalcin and the width of their bones were greater compared to the other mice that didn’t have those polymers.
