The Chinese Musician Enjoys Guitar Playing Together With the Brain Surgery
A Chinese musician enjoys guitar playing while being operated for the brain on last Tuesday.
The Chinese press identified the person as Mr.Li, 57 years old musician who suffered due to an uncommon neurological illness, the musician’s dystonia. The malady causes stiffness in muscles and affected patients become incapable of playing musical instruments.
Mr.Li was required to retain consciousness for the surgery. The patient played the guitar while surgeons were busy monitoring electrodes to analyze matching neurons responding to the motivation of the play.
Mr. Li acquired the illness in 90’s according to the ‘China Daily’. The disease deteriorated further requiring the brain surgery. The patient is originally from the northeastern province of Jilin, but had to travel to Shenzhen, Guangdong in the south for the surgery.
Mr.Li concluded that he had recovered nearly 80% of finger functioning ability after the surgery, which could reach 100% with proper rehabilitation exercises, told his doctors.
Mr.Li is one of seven persons in the world who received such treatment for dystonia. The use of musical instruments has been done in many brain surgeries.
