Great Scene on the Scottish Coast – Strange Blobfish Looking Sofa Shark

It is the first time when a strange looking blobfish sofa shark has been reported to be found off the Scotland coast. The sofa shark or the false catfish was discovered during a mission of deep sea survey being conducted by the Marine Scotland and scientists.

Since, Psuedotrakias microdons reside in deep sea between five hundred and fourteen hundred meters; they do not come across easily. However, they have been reported to be caught in the Western Atlantic region, Pacific Ocean and in many other areas of the world. These species have the habit of remaining mostly near the sea bed and rarely come into shallow level of sea water.

The recognition of sofa shark can be made effectively and easily with its length up to three meters, long and narrow eyes, an outsized mouth with tiny and rounded nose and wide skin flaps on frontal rims of nostrils.

The sofa shark has big sagging muscles and an oil liver, which constitutes one fourth of its entire weight and that, is why the killer shark moves at a slow speed. The weighty liver helps the killer shark to float over the ocean bed with very little exertion. The normal food of the large fish includes eel fish, squid, octopus and shrimp.

It was never before that the sofa shark was discovered in Scottish waters. The recent catch makes living elasmobranchs to 72 in there. The Scottish Shark Tagging Programme welcomes the current addition with great enthusiasm.
