Indian scientists carried on extensive research for 10 years on the time –tested turmeric at the Rajiv Gandhi Proudvogiki Vishwavidalaya or RGPV at Bhopal. The motivation to do the research work originated due to several healing attributes of turmeric found by common people. Turmeric is a common element used in the kitchen of numerous households in the country.
The plant is known to have effective antiseptic power, which can be applied to every individual for the treatment of different disorders. The research was conducted on turmeric for a long time, which delivered excellent results in terms of treating various ailments. Scientists found two molecules responsible for working as anti-cancer elements. It was stated by Prof. Piyush Trivedi, the Vice chancellor of RGPV in Bhopal.
Dr. C.Karthikeyan, a doctoral student at the institute further added that molecules of turmeric are qualified to act as anti-cancer elements, which work through a mechanism engaging the process of obstruction of cancer cell division by restraining tubulin, the protein, which plays an important role in different cellular functions. The function includes chromosome segregation throughout cell division, growth and preservation of cell shape, intracellular transport, cell motility and sharing of molecules on cell membranes.
Prof. Piyush Trivedi speaks very high of medical properties of turmeric and adds that use of turmeric is unique and novel because it does not have any adverse effect like other anti-cancer drugs or treatment procedures such as chemotherapy, which has major side effects. Molecules of turmeric aim and demolish cancerous cells only and do not harm any other cell useful for the normal functioning of the body.
