10 Million Bacteria in a Glass of Water

A fresh study claims that a glass of pure drinking water is safe by virtue of having 10 million ‘good bacteria’.  Researchers ensured that the large number ‘good bacteria’ concealed in purification plants and water pipes are responsible for the purification of the drinking water. The knowledge is a newly acquired knowledge. The final take is a glass of pure water for drinking includes 10 million bacteria. The tap water has harmless bacteria and is pure.

Treatment plants and water pipes help the bacteria and different microbes grow in the water pipes, which is evident by the appearance of a thin, but sticky coating or biofilm. The biofilm covers the entire surface of the water inside the tap.  The finding displays the diversity of species in a great way such as the bacteria in the water, which plays a dominant role than ever envisaged.

Researchers are of the opinion that the major portion of the water purification takes place inside the water pipes compared to the purification plants. A totally unfamiliar ecosystem has come to the public knowledge through the study. Earlier, very few bacteria could be traced in the drinking water, but with the introduction of techniques such as DNA sequencing and flow cytometry, nearly eighty thousands bacteria could be found in one milliliter of drinking water, which was observed by Catherine Paul of Lund University, Sweden. Several thousands of different species of bacteria are found in the drinking water pipes. Researchers concluded that there is a relation between the quality of water and the composition of bacteria.
