A Smartphone Catches Fake Viagra

If you find that the result of Viagra was subdued last night, do not curse yourself because the pill might be a counterfeit.

Researchers have developed a smartphone-related device that checks the pill for its purity. In a moment, you know whether you are using a fake or genuine product and avoid awkward situations.

Stratio, the San Jose based startup-developer explains that the device finds out the reflective signature of the pill to compare it with standard pills (pre-stored data is available in the smartphone app) to check the matching ability of the product.

Leslie Grothaus, co-founder of the research team hoped that consumers would use the device to diminish the feeling of panic when using such products. The device is just like the battery of the smartphone, which is connected to the smartphone through the USB cable.

It is a range of light from LinkSquare that falls on the pill to create reflection from the pill, which is arrested by an image sensor capable of identifying the fake one.

The company intends to market it commercially in the later part this year for $199. It has additional plans for checking different items including labeled food products.

The report further adds that there are many challenges to be solved like creating the database of medicines to be checked by LinkSquare.
